Regional Work

The in-country work was supported by a team that also worked at the regional level to establish or strengthen networks, develop regional knowledge products and undertake cross-country work. The KHSA management team comprised specialists in the area of project management, finance, strategic communications, knowledge management and monitoring and evaluation, advocacy and logistics. Some highlights of our work undertaken through KHSA are below.

Regional Baseline Reports & Knowledge Products

Regional baseline reports related to organic and agroecological stakeholders and their activities were drafted for Namibia, Zambia and Malawi. These can be accessed here.

Supporting the Development of Knowledge Products

The team provided conceptual input to the development of in-country partners’ knowledge products and developed a series of regional ones, included advocacy posters and factsheets related to organic agriculture.

Knowledge Management, Monitoring & Evaluation (KME)

The regional KME team worked closely with in-country KME officers to ensure that our monitoring and evaluation was rigorous. They also took the lead in drafting all the project reports for our funder. Our KME manager, who led a  team of 8, made sure in-country KME officers stayed connected by organizing regular meetings to share share knowledge, experiences and updates on project activities.

Strategic Communications

The regional Communications Manager worked with a team of 11 country Communications officers who promoted the uptake of organic and agroecological agriculture through their organisation’s social media platforms, websites, and in mass media. This team met regularly to learn news skills, share country updates and plan for collaborative communications. Several organisational and project communication strategies were developed and deployed.

ISAN Magazine

In efforts to strengthen the regional network of organic and agroecological practitioners in Southern Africa, we developed and publish the quarterly ISAN magazine. The magazine is available on various websites, including the United Nations Family Farming database. It is distributed to more than 10 000 people every quarter. See all issues here.

Facilitating In-Country IFOAM Training

The team managed and facilitated training on behalf of the International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements (IFOAM)-Organic International from 2021 to 2024. This includes helping country partners to organise 3 Training of Teams of Trainers sessions in Namibia, Zambia and South Africa, hosting the Southern African participants in the Ecological Leadership Course training, supporting the delivery of 2 refresher training sessions for master trainers in Namibia and Zambia and 4 multiplier training sessions in Namibia, Malawi, Zambia and South Africa.
