Locally rooted.
Continentally connected.

KHSA is powered by a strong consortium of local organisations with deep knowledge of community dynamics, farming systems and policy environments. Their leadership ensures the relevance, legitimacy and sustainability of everything we do.

Our Implementation Partners

KHSA works with leading organizations across Southern Africa to create a lasting impact.

Zambia

PELUM Zambia

Pelum Zambia focused its KHSA work at the sectoral level, working with policymakers and lead farmer organisations to fill knowledge needs related to organics and agroecology.

Kasisi Agricultural Training Centre (KATC)

KATC  worked with repesentatives from selected government agricultural centres and institutions through a multiplier support programme to provide training and co-create knowledge resources.

Partnership Quote

“Before the KATC programme, I never knew how to make manure teas, bokashi, compost and biofertiliser but now I have confidence when I stand in front of an audience to explain these techniques.” – KATC Multiplier Support Programme Participant

Malawi

Kusamala Institute of Agriculture and Ecology (KIAE)

For the KHSA project, KIAE trained journalists and editors in integrated reporting on agroecology and current challenges such as climate change, food insecurity and biodiversity loss.

Soils, Food and Healthy Communities (SFHC)

SFHC worked through its Farmer Research Team to enhance their farming and facilitation skills. This team, in turn, reaches thousands of farmers in northern Malawi.

Partnership Quote

“We’re sharing what we’ve learned everywhere — in churches, at family gatherings, during field and recipe days, and in village meetings. We’re helping other farmers put new ideas into practice.” – SFHC Multiplier Support Programme Participant

Namibia

Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF)

NNF ran a multiplier support programme training a group of lead famers to become community extension officers, sharing their knowledge with smallholder farmers in northern Namibia.

Namibian Organic Association (NOA)

NOA worked to create an enabling sectoral environment by strengthening agricultural curricula and academic and consumer knowledge of the benefits of organic agriculture and agroecology.

Partnership Quote

“People in my community now recognise me as an expert, and I’ve built strong connections with others who share the same passion. We’re no longer working alone — we’re part of something bigger.” – NNF Multiplier Support Programme Participant

South Africa

South African Organic Sector Organisation (SAOSO)

SAOSO, in partnership with PGS SA, established an innovative PGS Pollinator Programme that led to the establishment of PGS groups throughout the country.

Participatory Guarantee System South Africa (PGS SA)

PGS SA oversaw the training of 19 Pollinators and supported them in establishing and managing PGS groups resulting in PGS certification of more than 120 farms in South Africa.

Partnership Quote

“We’re seeing real change — more organic food is reaching low-income communities where good quality matters most. And it’s happening without pushing up the prices of fresh fruit and vegetables.” – PGS SA Multiplier Support Programme Participant

Project Management and Coordination

The Sustainability Institute in South Africa manages the KHSA programme. The team provides country partners with support in programme design and implementation, monitoring and evaluation, communications and capacity building and reporting.
